Mathematics

Mathematics is a core subject area compulsory for all students in Years 7 to 10. Our challenge is to engage all of our students to enable them to achieve the best mathematical learning outcomes possible for them. Our aim in doing this is to develop students’ mathematical thinking, understanding, competence and confidence in the application of mathematics, their creativity, enjoyment and appreciation of the subject, and their engagement in lifelong learning.

Cromer Campus offers Mathematics Enrichment classes in Years 7 and 8. These classes focus on the Working Mathematically strand of the syllabus and students do work that is more challenging and designed to provoke curiosity and deepen mathematical insight. Students look at alternate and more sophisticated techniques and proofs.

In Year 8 we have a class for students who have experienced difficulties in Year 7 mathematics. This class looks at developing “numbersense” and utilises many Counting On strategies to enable students to successfully complete Year 9 and 10 on the Stage 5.1 pathway.

Years 9 and 10 sees the students graded into three different pathways of learning; 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3. There is flexibility between the pathways.

In Years 11 and 12, Cromer Campus offers all of the NSW Board Of Studies courses: General Mathematics, Mathematics, Extension 1 and 2.

Cromer Campus has purchased a Mathletics school license that enables students to purchase a password and username of this fantastic on-line game and curriculum support program for a fraction of the cost to the general public. This resource is integrated into lessons and can be used at home at any time. This program has seen an improvement in students’ results and engagement with mathematics and it is great fun!

Mathematics is a subject area at Cromer Campus where students know that class time is valued and the environment is conducive to being able to give your best and experience success.
