School to Work program

The careers program is managed by the Careers Adviser Ms Fiona Bird and is part of a bigger program called the School To Work Program.

The School To Work Program aims to prepare students for multiple career pathways. It includes the identification and recording of employment related skills developed through an extensive range of generic and work related learning experiences and opportunities provided across all curriculum areas.

At Cromer Campus students currently in Years 9 – 12 participate in School To Work activities. These include:

  • Information sessions conducted by a range of Industry areas including:
    - Northern Sydney Health
    - Defence Forces
    - NSW Police Force
  • Work Experience for all Year 10 students
  • Work Placement for students studying Vocational Education Courses in Years 11 and 12
  • Visits to Career Expos for all students
  • Visits to Universities for senior students
  • Campus based Course Expos to assist in HSC planning
  • Individual Career Planning interviews for students in Year 10 and above
  • Personalised Careers Assessments for students in Year 11
  • Individualised transition programs for early school leavers
  • Seminar programs for Year 12 students focussing on The HSC and Beyond
  • Study Skills Programs for Year 11
  • Year 10 seminars on motivation and making first impressions last

At Cromer Campus we are committed to building local community and industry partnerships to support student transition from school. We offer a high quality transition program involving partnerships with:

  • NSW TAFE: Northern Sydney Institute
  • Jobs Pathway Program
  • Local Employers

Students in Year 9 and above are able to access TAFE Outreach Programs and these are complemented at Cromer Campus with the inclusion of a workplace program that runs concurrently. In 2006 we successfully provided transition for students into both the Automotive Industry and Hair and Beauty Industry. Students have been able to enter apprenticeships with prior training and skills that have been provided through our partnerships.

In addition, we have successfully placed students directly into the workplace, particularly in trade areas.
The Cromer Campus School To Work Program creates students that are highly equipped to enter the workplace and are attractive to employers.

To compliment the School To Work Program students attend Careers classes where they study the workplace, learn about their future pathways and prepare documentation they will require. At the classroom level, students record their employment related skills by using their Logbook. Students acquire skills across all curriculum areas and these are recorded once a semester.
