Technology in Years 7 and 8 is taught in the contexts of Food and Textiles.
Computer skills are entwined within the programs. In Year 7 a “CD Cookbook” is developed by the students using photographs of their food creations and recipes placed onto a CD using Power Point incorporating animation and sound, with a personally designed CD case label and cover. Year 8 develop their own nutritionally sound recipe, after trialling many simple yet, stunning meals.
Textiles Technology in Year 7 encompasses a unit titled “Gifts Galore”. The students develop a number of skills and produce a Pom Pom pet, child’s toy, machine embroidered gift card and many more small saleable items.
Year 8 Textiles Technology moves into garment design and creation.
Food Technology in Years 9 and 10 develops both culinary skills and food technology concepts. Students delve into Aussie bush foods, food preservation, dietary needs and diseases, the process of food from farm to table, food display and decoration, the social role of food in our society and the ethics of food distribution through the world. By the end of this course many of our students have taken part time jobs in the food industry.
In our Senior School, the Applied Technology subjects have proven to be extremely popular. Our excellent results in the HSC in both Textiles and Design and Community and Family Studies of multiple Band 6 credits, have encouraged students to explore the relevance and enjoyment of these subjects, whilst knowing that hard work can reap the best of rewards.
Textiles and Design in Years 11 and 12 produce both practical designs and constructed items culminating in the HSC Major Textiles Project. Students enjoy studying modern and traditional textiles, designers, the Australian fashion and clothing industries as well learning a variety of design techniques and innovative construction processes.

Community and Family Studies is a new subject to Cromer Campus.
Students explore the world of self, family and society in many practical and theoretical ways. A popular exercise is a weekend with the ‘computerised baby doll’. The doll is programmed to behave like a baby and the students take turns with sleepless nights and all the other inconveniences of a real baby. Fortunately, they are able to give it back !! Our recent HSC results in this subject were outstanding.
Senior Food Technology is a marriage of practical food preparation, food theory, food manufacture, nutrition, food availability and selection and food quality.
Students enjoy moving out into the community to see first hand bush food in its natural habitat, food manufacturing businesses and Centrepoint Tower for a tour of the restaurant and kitchens.
VET Hospitality is taught in our purpose designed, commercial kitchens.
Hospitality has been taught at Cromer since 1996. Many of our graduating students have gone on to follow prize winning careers in the restaurant business. We proudly teach this subject to the highest of standards. Year 12 hospitality students design, prepare and present a 3 course high quality, top restaurant style meal for parents and teachers or prepare a Cocktail party as their final practical experience.

Special Yearly Events – Annual “Bake Off” Cake Decorating competition for Junior and Senior students.
- Year 12 Hospitality Cocktail Party/Dinner Party.
A special segment of the Channel 9 TV show ‘Fresh’ was filmed at our school, with a number of students being taught ‘the basics of survival’ by Geoff Jansz.
